Milwaukee Winter Club

David Steckel was born on March 15, 1982, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  He played his youth hockey (mite through peewee) for Washington County Youth Hockey Association in West Bend.  In his first year as a bantam he elected to join the Pettit National Select Team in Milwaukee, where he played through his Midget Major year. Following that season he was selected to join the U.S. National Team in Ann Arbor, Michigan.  
 
Steckel was drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in the first round, 30th overall, in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.  He played four seasons at the Ohio State University before joining the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League in the 2004-05 season.  
 
Steckel signed with the Washington Capitals as a free agent on August 25, 2005.  He made his NHL debut with the Washington Capitals in the 2005-06 season, appearing in seven games.  After appearing in five more games with the Capitals in 2006-07, he made the team's opening night roster in 2007-08.  
 
After playing 291 games with the Capitals over six seasons he was traded at the deadline to the New Jersey Devils in the 2010-11 season. He appeared in 18 games with the Devils.
 
Before the 2011-12 season began Steckel was dealt to the Toronto Maple Leafs, where he currently plays center.  Through the 2010-11 season, Steckel has amassed 24 goals and 35 assists over 309 games.
