Cross Roster Policy
- MWC does NOT allow for cross-rostering, but may use substitutes throughout the season if team coaches deem it appropriate.
- Girls must declare whether they are trying out for youth (coed) or all girls prior to tryouts.
The Wisconsin Amateur Hockey Association (WAHA) allows for girls to be rostered on two teams within their appropriate age classification, so long as one of those teams is a girls only team. This is known as cross rostering.
Each Association determines whether they allow cross rostering. It is not mandatory that an Association offering both youth and girls only teams allow for cross rostering. Consistent with our attendance policy aimed at a commitment to maximizing the success of each individual team, MWC currently does NOT allow for cross rostering.
MWC does not allow for cross-rostering due to additional considerations such as:
- MWC is able to provide the opportunity for girls to experience girls only hockey without having to introduce cross rostering.
- Prioritizing Team Chemistry: Consistent roster presence, line cohesion, and shared accountability.
- Reliable Practice & Game Presence: Elimination of conflicts, full practice attendance, and predictable bench depth.
- Prioritizing Player Safety (Burnout Prevention): Mitigating physical exhaustion, allowing mental recovery, and balancing personal life and other activities as we align with USA Hockey guidelines for number of games, practices, etc.
- Girls have the option to choose to play on an All-Girls team or a Youth (co-ed) team prior to tryouts. MWC supports each family's choice in making this decision.
Goalie Exception
From time-to-time, needs at the goalie position may warrant MWC leadership to determine, on a case-by-case basis, that an exception to this policy is needed for the best interest of MWC and its teams.
